All about undermount sinks

1.5 bowl undermount stainless steel sink

The undermount kitchen sink is more discreet than an inset sink.  Available in a vast range of colours, finishes and styles, the undermount sink has become increasingly popular with the advent of modern, minimalistic kitchen designs.  These sinks require solid work surfaces, such as granite, marble, concrete or soapstone, as laminated and tiled worktops can lack the strength to support the weight of the sink – the undermount sink is effectively hung from the work surface and can be heavy, particularly when filled with water and pots.  Undermount sinks rarely have a built-in drainer; instead, draining grooves are usually cut into the work surface, creating clean lines and more useable work space, allowing the sink itself to have a stylish look with no drainer.

Whilst the majority of undermount sinks are stainless steel, including both brushed and polished finishes, there are also ceramic and granite options.  Indeed, as well as the standard white and black, there are also soft and warm shades of cream and increasingly popular grey shades, from the pale and subtle to the bolder and darker graphite available.
